Using Affect to Shift Impressions of Muslims

In a similar way to how the Muslim American creators use aesthetics and visual styles to shift how people view Islamic styles, some of the creators also engage with affects–the intensity of emotions–to produce feelings of resonance with the viewers. The following examples present how Muslim Americans employ affects of positivity, authenticity, humor and intimacy to create a sense of connection and relatability with Americans who may not know a Muslim personally.
